The Trio Process
At the heart of the Foundational Program is a simple but powerful relational structure called the Trio process
Healing does not happen in isolation. It happens in relationship. Not through advice, fixing, or interpretation, but through being deeply seen, heard, and accompanied. When we are supported enough to be vulnerable and express thoughts, feelings and parts of ourselves that we have hidden away, we experience greater connection with ourselves and others.
The Trio is a structured, experiential practice designed to restore that capacity.
Why the Trio Exists
Most of us were never taught how to stay present with our own inner experience, let alone how to be with someone else’s without trying to fix, analyze, or rescue them. We learned to override sensation, move past emotion, and rely on the mind to stay in control.
The Trio Process gently disrupts that pattern. It creates a contained space where the body’s intelligence can emerge, where insight arises organically, and where the nervous system learns, often for the first time, that it is safe to be fully present.
This is not therapy. It is not coaching. This isn’t group therapy. No one is leading or in charge of another’s process. It is not problem-solving or advice giving. It is a practice of listening, to your own body, to your own emotional experience, and to your trio mates’ stories, experiences so that you can each discover what is ready to be remembered.

The Three Roles
Each Trio Process consists of three rotating roles. In each session, in every trio process, all participants “sit” in each role equally.

The Explorer
The Explorer turns inward. This is the person speaking from lived, embodied experience, exploring the triggers, bodily sensations, emotions, images, memories, or words that are emerging in real time.
The Explorer is not performing, explaining, or justifying.
They are not sharing their stories.
They are practicing identifying and expressing the emotions that they discover in their bodies to begin to integrate and embody the truth of who they really are.

The Companion
The Companion has all the external senses intact as they accompany the Explorer. They are present, attentive, and grounded. The Companion does not need to fix, advise, or counsel. They are assisting the Inwardly focused Explorer to stay with the body and its sensations and emotions. They gently encourage the Explorer to not dwell in their story, reside in their thoughts or avoid the body. They offer observations, reflections or questions when appropriate so that the Explorer can remain connected to their own experience. The Companion doesn’t have the answers for the Explorer. They don’t know the path forward, but they walk alongside with love and compassion.

The Anchor
The Anchor is the battery of loving energy who holds the container for the Trio Process.
This role is silent, loving and grounded.
The Anchor does not intervene or communicate during the Exploration portion of the Trio Process, but supports the other Trio members as a witness.
There is a feedback section in each Trio Process when the Anchor can share their observations and appreciation.
Together, these three roles create a balanced system of introspection and expression, observation and support, and containment.
How the Trio Works
Trio sessions follow a clear structure, but what arises within them is individualized.
Overall the process invites a movement inward to sensation first, then emotion, then understanding by allowing insight to emerge from the expression of emotions found in the body rather than being imposed by the mind.
Over time, participants learn to:
Distinguish story and thoughts from the body and its sensations and emotions
Stay present with discomfort without popping out into story, coping or forcing resolution
Relate to symptoms and emotions with curiosity rather than judgment
Experience their inner wisdom and truth without fixing or being fixed
What often surprises people is how much shifts without effort. When the body’s sensation and symptoms are acknowledged, the emotions are expressed, understanding and love arises naturally and the stories and the symptoms integrate and recede.
Why This Matters
The Trio Process is not just a practice used in the program.
It is a microcosm of a different way of being human. The Companion and the Anchor roles become embodied within ourselves through this process and the homework in the Program. This process allows for the creation of a space where:
No one is positioned as the expert over someone else’s experience
Support does not require authority
Healing emerges through attention and expression, not interventions.

This is why the Trio is foundational. It trains the capacity to view yourself and listen to yourself and to others in a way that most of us were never taught, but have always needed, that we have all the inner resources to heal at the deepest levels and to embody the love and support we need within ourselves.
If you are someone who senses that healing is not about more information, but about a different quality of presence, the Trio may likely feel both unfamiliar and deeply intuitive.
